Why Living Wholehearted Counseling?

We specialize in trauma-informed holistic counseling for leaders and their families. We define a leader as anyone with a following. Whether you are a parent or the CEO of a fortune 500 company (or both), you are a leader and how you live and lead matters.

Over two decades, we have found that most high-capacity leaders have significant unresolved childhood trauma and the stress of leadership takes its toll. Most leaders don’t think to look back into their past for a variety of reasons, but the stress of leadership only magnifies unresolved trauma, resulting in leaders leaking their pain, fear and unhealthy coping strategies onto those they lead at home, work and in the community. In addition, leaders can find themselves isolated and alone, unaware of how the pressures of their present are impacting their mental, physical, and emotional health.

Counseling is meant to be a journey of hope when we face life’s trials. Truth is, we all have pain in our stories. The decision often is whether or not we will face our stories so we can live a more wholehearted life.

With the help of a trusted and trained guide, counseling provides a confidential space to pause and notice what is limiting your potential for wholeness and healing, so you can deepen your empathy for those in your wake and live a more wholehearted life. We strive to approach issues from a holistic perspective, keeping in mind the psychological, physiological, relational and spiritual aspects of your life. Our professional team of trained clinicians will carefully consider your lifestyle, choices, beliefs, and cultural influences. You are made in the image of God and are therefore, uniquely valuable.

At Living Wholehearted, you will find a safe and confidential space for you and your family to restore, renew, and rebuild.

It’s never too late to unravel the people-issues that keep you up at night.

MEET OUR COUNSELORS

Mending the Soul
Small Group

This Mending the Soul group is for women and specifically designed to help you work through all the abuses in your story – from childhood to any current relationships, personal and professional. These abuses may include spiritual, sexual, physical, emotional/mental, and/or verbal.

So many of our stories contain overt abuse, where it is clear and obvious. However, a majority of us have covert abuse, that is harder to define. This group will help you process both types.

Our stories are all our own and we must resist the temptation to compare. A group like this helps us understand our own stories and brings healing in ways that individual work cannot provide.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 9 Monroe Parkway, Suite 250
    Lake Oswego, OR 97035
(near New Seasons Market and the Columbia Factory Store)

  • Living Wholehearted does not do insurance directly, but our clinicians will provide you with an insurance superbill that you can turn into your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Many of our clients who choose this option get 50 % to 100% reimbursement after their deductibles are met.

We do understand that this can create a barrier for some. If you need to use insurance, there are many counseling agencies that are available in the area.

After two decades of working in the mental health field, we have found that we can maintain the quality of care we provide by not partnering with insurance companies. It’s a hard decision we come back to every time we reconsider the possibility. Here are just a few of our reasons:

    1. Insurance companies run through a medical model, paying only for symptom reduction. At Living Wholehearted, we address the root issues that are creating the symptoms from a holistic trauma-informed lens.

    2. We have found that many leaders who come to Living Wholehearted do not want to use insurance for a variety of reasons. This keeps LW safe for those leaders.

    3. We also value the health and wholeness of our very experienced counselors. By staying out of the insurance business, we can assure you that our counselors are working to serve you, and you alone.

    4. Most counselors who remain on panels see anywhere from 30 to 50 clients a week (with burnout just around the corner.) At Living Wholehearted, our counselors see 15 to 25 clients max per week, making sure we can discern best treatment plans and care for our clients that are not dictated by insurance.

    5. Our counselors are able to pace their life and work balance without the extra hours needed for insurance billing so they can truly practice what they preach.

  • You can contact Hollie Perlmutter at hollie@livingwholehearted.com with any questions you may have about our services. She would be happy to help you find the right counselor for your needs.

  • Graduate Student Interns are finishing their masters degree in counseling or marriage and family therapy. They are consult weekly with their supervisor. This does not mean they are without experience in the field, as we select interns who are mature in character and have previous experience. Often times, our interns are working on their 2nd or even 4th career, having expertise in areas that apply to our clients such as being a physician or a seasoned pastor.

Associates are beyond graduate school and are working toward licensure. The state of Oregon requires 2000 to 2500+ hours of post graduate hours with clients in order to be licensed. Associates receive monthly consultation with their supervisor.

Licensed clinicians have met all their requirements and are the most seasoned of our clinicians. The state no longer requires counselors to consult or receive supervision, but at LW we provide on-going training, consultation, and coaching to all our counselors to insure on-going health and quality of care.

  • Coaching is for those who have done a lot of looking back and are ready to run forward. It’s about actions, results, and cheerleading you toward the goals you have for you, your family and your career.

Counseling is for those who feel stuck and need a slower pace and more sessions to move through significant loss, trauma, marital betrayal, mental illness, and more.

Our counselors and coaches often refer to one another at different stages of a client’s journey. Our holistic approach allows clients to find support at every turn of their life journey at home, work and in the community.

  • We define a leader as anyone with a following - that means a parent, a high schooler on social media, and a Sunday school teacher are all leaders. In fact, we believe that many who come through our counseling practice find their leadership and influence, extending healing way beyond our offices. Though we do specialize in being a safe place for high-capacity leaders and their families (as there are not many places who do), we would never define a leader simply by a title. If we have something you want to participate in and we can provide you with quality care, you are welcome here!

  • We know that many times finances can keep people from getting the professional support they need. Our sliding scale is through our graduate school interns. They are $100/hour.

If you need further assistance, we recommend you reach out to your church or a family member who could support you by donating toward your counseling through our partners, the National Association for Family Ministries. They offer tax-deductible receipts for anyone wants to support a non-profit or ministry leader to received services through LW.

  • Due to the Oregon State board laws and ethics, we can only see professional counseling clients who live in the state of Oregon. If you would like to work with someone at LW but live elsewhere, you can consider our coaches. There are several who are trained clinicians and can help you discern if coaching is a viable option for you.
