Annie Horner
My beginning towards the counseling profession started across the world, as I was working at a Christian ministry in Cornwall, England. In the trenches of working with teens who carried difficult to traumatic stories, I started asking the question “what does it mean to be healed?”.
The help that we needed as a ministry in this capacity was grand; and I felt the call to seek training on how to bridge the gap between the reality of healing and the places we feel stuck.
With years of experience with ministries, churches, and non-profits in different countries around the world, I now practice as a Mental Health Therapist working with my clients towards greater healing. I work with all ages in various difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma & abuse, shame, and grief & loss. I also enjoy preventative work through coaching parents (whether seasoned or expecting) in creating healthy rhythms and principles to experience connection with their children.
Outside of Living Wholehearted, I work with my husband Cameron Horner within his non-profit, Cameron Horner Ministries, where we speak of hope and strength in the beautiful and challenging world of disability, extending my passion towards finding “healing” over “fixes”. We live together in North Carolina with frequent long-stays in Oregon, allowing me to offer a blend of telehealth & in-person sessions.
MY PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH
I desire to work collaboratively with my clients towards finding strength and healing in their stories. I believe true healing involves the whole person (mind, body, heart, and spirit) with no quick fixes. With the guidance and care of an empathic witness through the counseling relationship, we will carefully attend to the difficult places as you find your voice and strength at your set pace. This comes from my belief that we do not need to be “fixed” but rather seen and strengthened. In this way, we are working on the deeper roots for lasting impact not only for yourself, but the current and future relationships around you. In-person sessions available when in the Lake Oswego offices.
For parents, I work with you in the places that run interference in connecting with your child in the way you long for. My belief is that you are who your child needs most - not a perfect “other” parent. I work with parents to reduce parental stress and pressure with helpful tools grounded in research of effective parenting to build resilience, connection, and a lasting relationship with your child. While there is no “perfect parenting” approach, we will build a roadmap of healthy principles and rhythms to guide you on a lifelong road. Whether your child is yet to be born or an adult, it is never too early or too late to grow in building parent-child connections that last.
