Episode 204: Parenting Series - Teens and Anxiety, with Dr Kristin Valerius
Being a parent is not an easy leadership role. Parents lead families, one of the greatest organizations on the planet! We often feel equipped until we actually start raising children. Whether you are a parent needing some wisdom on perfectionism, anxiety, or raising girls, or you are interested in becoming a counselor and want to hear two seasoned clinicians talk about why they made that career choice, this conversation is for you.
We are in the middle of our fall parenting series. Being a parent is one of the most important leadership roles you can have, and ironically, with all the books and wisdom offered in the world, there is only one of you and one version of your child - and no one wrote a parenting manual for your child. So, as parents, we all need to lean into principals, lots of grace, and a bit of trial and error. Which…may cause some anxiety if you are a follow-the-rules kind of person. Listen in as my friend and colleague in the mental health field, Dr. Kristin Valerius, talks about raising teens, and offers wisdom and insight into understanding their anxiety, and your anxiety too! You'll learn some practical tools, but also a way of reframing what it means to parent our teens well.
Dr. Kristin Valerius has been a pediatric psychologist counseling children, adolescents, and families since 2006. She has been helping with a wide variety of behavioral difficulties, strained parent-child relationships, depression, anxiety, school refusal, toileting and feeding difficulties, as well as learning and Attention Deficit disorders. She is the Executive Director of Sundstrom Clinical Services, training and supervising a large staff of professional counselors, psychologists and prescribers.
Hopefully, today’s conversation will bring some peace to your heart, mind and soul.
