Terra Mattson, MA LMFT, LPC

TERRA MATTSON

Terra has a unique blend of disciplines that has led her to pioneer and start Living Wholehearted and Courageous Girls alongside her husband, Jeff Mattson. She has a vast history of experience being a CEO, professional marriage and family therapist, clinical supervisor, entrepreneur, executive coach, organizational consultant, pastoral counselor, adjunct professor, podcaster, and trainer in the following settings: private practice, community mental health, county corrections, Christian universities, non-profit organizations, for-profit executive teams, and pastoral ministries in the church and para-church settings.

Terra is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor and now works solely as an executive coach. For almost twenty years, she ran a thriving private practice while presenting to women, couples, and leaders in a retreat and conference settings including the American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference (2009, 2011, 2017, 2021, 2023), Murdock Trust Foundation, Christian Parenting, and more. Her speaking and writing has been featured on the Carey Nieuwhof Show, Christianity Today, Focus on the Family, Family Life Today, Brio Magazine, For Girls like You, Relevant, Ministry Spark, Ministry Strong, and many more. She is the founding Clinical Director for Living Wholehearted Counseling and has served as an adjunct professor with George Fox University’s Graduate Counseling Department. At the core of all she does, she most passionate about helping leaders restore, renew, and rebuild healthier relationships with those they say they love the most.

She is the author of Courageous: Being Daughter Rooted in Grace (David C. Cook, 2020) and the coauthor of Shrinking the Integrity Gap: Between What Leaders Preach and Live (David C. Cook, 2020). She was also the visionary for the Courageous Gathering, a virtual conference-on-the-go resourcing women for the issues of today. Alongside Jeff, she is the host of the Living Wholehearted Podcast and the Dear Mattson’s parenting video series. She launched Courageous Girls in 2012, an online resource for moms to walk with their daughters at every stage of her growing years. She collaborates with Christian Parenting, who is reaching millions of parents throughout the world, creating a one-to-one course for moms and daughters called “Helping Moms Raise Confident Daughters.”

Terra took a lasting sabbatical from her counseling practice in 2020 due to the increasing demands beyond the counseling office. She continues to see executive coaching clients, writes and speaks nationally. If you are interested in working with Terra directly, consider applying for one of the three cohorts or joining her at one of her Living Wholehearted workshops or retreats in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

Executive Coaching Philosophy and Approach

I understand the coaching process to be a holistic journey to discovering who you are and learning to live within your purposed lane. My passion is helping you see beyond the demands of today, growing in non-anxious leadership, and helping you live out of the values you hold deeply for you, your family, and those you lead. I am a trusted guide, connecting clinical research, biblical truths and relational wisdom so that leaders live out healthy relationships in every area of their life.

After two decades of working with men, women, couples, teens, children, and families in her counseling practice, she sees executive coaching as a way to integrate leadership development and vision with her trauma expertise. Working specifically with high-capacity leaders for two decades, she understand the complexity and unique challenges leaders face.

Though you may spend some time on the concerns that brought you into coaching, you will also look at the nature of your relationships. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Executive Coach, Terra believes that many of our issues are deeply rooted in the complexity of relational issues that often started in our families-of-origin. You will explore your past in order to gain better clarity of patterns in the present, with the hope of changing the future. There will be careful consideration of your lifestyle, choices, beliefs, and cultural influences as Terra approaches all issues from the psychological, physiological, relational and spiritual aspects of your life. You are made in the image of God and are therefore, uniquely valuable.

Coaching is a safe, respectful experience and careful consideration will be given to you and your unique journey.
