Philosophy and Approach

Life is a challenge. What makes it interesting is how we choose to respond to that challenge.  Each one of us is called to decide whether to be content with our current state or whether we want more. Perhaps you or your loved ones find the challenges of life to be too many to bear, too overwhelming, or too relentless. Or perhaps, the success and fulfillment that comes so naturally in certain pursuits seems elusive and out of reach in those areas that matter to you most. I approach counseling with the belief that though challenges in life may bring pain or even brokenness, they can just as surely bring strength, endurance, perseverance, integrity and hope. “Hope,” a friend once told me, “is a warring virtue.” In partnering with you, I will provide the safety, encouragement, optimism and hope necessary to explore the impact of life’s hardships on you or your family. You will be invited to rediscover your innate capacity for love, courage, and the commitment to keep striving for wholeness.

I utilize a systemic perspective in my practice with an emphasis on intergenerational influences and Cognitive Behavioral methods when working with individuals, families/couples and groups. In other words, I encourage growing awareness of the influence of significant relationships on personal functioning so you or your family can seize control of the direction of your family legacy rather than falling victim to it. In doing so, I will work with you to achieve a sense of self-efficacy and improved functioning through the achievement of identified goals. As I am particularly attentive to the influence of primary relationships, I am always happy to incorporate family members and significant others in the therapeutic process in order to foster enduring change.

Formal Education and Training

I hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary School of Psychology. Major areas of study included: Family Therapy, Marital Therapy, Psychopathology, among others, as well as extensive study in the interplay of religion, faith, and psychology.

Current Professional Status

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (T1760) with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT).  I participate in ongoing continuing education in subjects relevant to the field and practice, and am also a member of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT).

Professional Competencies

For the past 15 years, I have worked to help troubled youth, individuals and families heal and reconnect. For many years, I served as a group therapist providing domestic violence intervention for court-mandated domestic abusers in Washington County. In my current practice, I routinely work with couples as they prepare for or reinvest in their marriage and aid spouses experiencing relational discord, intimacy concerns, or betrayal. I also treat men and women confronting various issues including depression, anxiety, loss, or exposure to acute or chronic trauma and Post traumatic Stress. I utilize various intervention methods including the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address the above concerns.

My standard hourly rate is $200.00 for a 50-minute session. Sessions longer than 50- minutes, beyond the initial assessment, are charged for the additional time pro rata. Payment is due at the beginning of session on a weekly basis via cash, check, or credit card. While we do not accept insurance, you may investigate if your insurance benefits cover out-of- network providers and what those terms are. You may be able to submit paperwork to your insurance company in order to apply our sessions to deductibles and/or receive assistance or reimbursement for the costs. I am happy to provide a bill of services that you can submit to your insurance company upon request if you find you have out of network coverage.
