Philosophy and Approach:
Counseling is an invitation to take a moment to pause, reflect and to reevaluate our life’s direction. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck and unsure of where to turn next. When you are experiencing anxiety, heartache, stress, and have past trauma, a compassionate and skilled counselor can ease the overwhelming sense of bearing these burdens alone.
My approach as a counselor is to come alongside you and collaboratively uncover ineffective patterns of functioning, discover growth opportunities and offer proactive steps to maintain positive growth once it is achieved. I believe true wholeness is experienced when our hearts convictions are lived out in all areas of our life. We will look at your life from a holistic perspective to see which areas might need additional consideration. We will uncover new ways of thinking, set measurable goals, and use techniques that are tailored to your specific needs. Sometimes you might share an earlier part of your story that helps us uncover current patterns that could be keeping you from fully connecting with yourself and others. You will be given time to tell your story at a pace that feels comfortable to you.
As a Christian counselor, I believe you have immense value and are deserving of a nonjudgmental and safe setting. Your strengths will be highlighted and uncovered in deeper ways during the therapy journey. Special attention will be given to your life story, cultural views and values. My goal as a counselor is to eventually work myself out of a job. I do this by helping my clients find their voice and learn how to integrate skills that help them foster healthy relationships with themselves and others.
I have a background in providing trauma and abuse education, family interventions, conflict resolution, parenting education, career and guidance counseling, couples counseling and spiritual direction. I use a variety of methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help reveal untold pieces of your life story.
